(NEW YORK) — As the holiday travel rush begins, a cross-country storm is bringing heavy snow, blizzard conditions and damaging winds.
Here’s the latest forecast:
The storm has moved into the Upper Midwest and the Plains, where blizzard warnings have been issued. Heavy snow will cause treacherous travel conditions in Des Moines and Minneapolis on Wednesday.
On Thursday the storm moves into the Midwest and Great Lakes.
St. Louis, Chicago, Indiana and Michigan will see the brunt of the blinding snow and high winds. Travel will be very dangerous on Thursday.
Blizzard conditions will continue in the Great Lakes into Friday as those winds keep blowing the snow around, causing very low visibility on the roads.
The heaviest snow accumulation is forecast for Michigan where up to 1 foot is expected. Although only a few inches of snow is expected for most of the Midwest, the combination of the snow, wind and brutal cold will still make this storm extremely dangerous.
Meanwhile, in the Northeast, heavy rain and high winds will be move in Thursday and last until Friday morning.
On Friday wind gusts could reach over 60 mph from Long Island to Maine. New York City and Boston could see wind gusts topping 50 mph.
