The Centralia Business and Professional Woman’s Club has named their Woman and Boss of the Year at a reception Wednesday night at the Barking Lot.

The Woman of the Year is Sheree Jones who was totally taken off guard.

“I am humbled, just humbled.  I try to make a difference in everything I do.  I believe in kindness and that is my outlook on life.”

Jones remains active in many community projects even though she is now retired.

“I was an occupational therapist for 41 years.  I raised my son and had a beautiful family.  My husband and I have been able to travel.  I have been able to give back in many ways either through my church or community.  My friends and family always say I do too much.  So my response is I need a longer wick because I’m going to burn the candle at both ends as long as I’m able to do because I think we are all called to be little disciples.”

In the nomination, Jones was described as a caring, giving, and inclusive person with her family, friends, and community who is always there to help.

The Boss of the Year is Howard Jones who is the Director of Plant Operations for St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia and Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.    He was also caught by surprise.

“I feel honored that my employees thought that much about me to put my name in for the award.  I really appreciate it.  I usually stand back and want to give them the award for what they do and help them get better and stay out of the limelight is how I manage.  But I really do appreciate it.  It’s a real honor.”

Jones, who supervises 37 employees between the two hospitals says he has a great crew at both facilities.   He first began his career at St. Mary’s 41 years ago.  His nomination says Jones goes above and beyond for his employees and co-workers regardless of their job titles and assigns tasks appropriately in areas where his employees can excel and encourages them to learn new things.
