Cleta F. Carter, age 74 of Salem formerly of Sandoval, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at Twin Willows Nursing Center in Salem.
Cleta was born on August 4, 1948, in Vandalia, Illinois, the daughter of Fredrick and Jewell (Norris) DeChausse. She married Ray Delatore and from this union came three children Connie, Ray, and Rachel, and they later divorced. She then married Delbert Carter and had two children, Samuel and LeAnne, and he preceded her in death on August 20, 2015.
Survivors include her children, Connie Cushman and husband Dalan of Centralia; Ray Delatore and significant other Pattie of Champaign, Rachel Scarbrough and husband Rocky of Salem, Samuel Carter of Sandoval, and LeAnne Carter of Mt. Vernon; step-children, Richard Carter of Salem and Leah Carter of Wheaton, IL; grandchildren Zephra Kneese, Abbey Hickey, Zakery Hickey, Harleigh Cushman, James Delatore, Brittany Shuler, Amanda Collier, Connor Scarbrough, Kurtis Carter, Alivia Carter, Evan Carter, Alizia Carter, Landen Carter, and Brooklyn Carter; five great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Vicky Gray of Centralia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, and four brothers
Cleta worked for many years as a hairdresser and retired from Murray Center in Centralia. She was of the Baptist Faith. She loved to quilt and cross stitch but especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Funeral services for Cleta F. Carter will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Crouse Funeral Home with Trent Ice officiating. Burial will follow at the Sandoval Cemetery in Sandoval. There will be a visitation on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
