Billy R. Telford, 80, of Walnut Hill passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at his home. He was born on November 11, 1941, the son of Howard and Vera (Barton) Telford in Walnut Hill. He married Virginia Loyd, and two sons were born of this union. They later divorced.
Survivors include his sons Joseph Telford and wife Kathy of Walnut Hill, and Warren Telford and wife Kim of Walnut Hill; 4 grandchildren Shawna Telford and Jake Wood, Josh Telford and wife Helen, Warren Kent Telford, and Chase Telford and wife Sammie; 7 great-grandchildren; and nephews, extended family, and friends.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Vera Telford; sister Fern Mills; and brother Paul Telford.
Bill was proud of his country and served in the United States National Guard. He worked the land as a farmer, raised cows, and was an operator, and engineer through the Operator and Engineer’s Local 520. He loved the beauty of the Shawnee Forrest, taking his mule down to ride the trails. Bill enjoyed time spent in the woods hunting for deer. He had a gardener’s green thumb, growing beautiful vegetable gardens. Bill was especially proud of his peppers and jalapenos. He was the best Papa to his amazing grandchildren who he could always make laugh. Bill will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his quick wit and good sense of humor, and the support and love he showed his family.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2022, at the Little Grove Cemetery in Walnut Hill. Memorials may be made in Bill’s honor to the Little Grove Cemetery and will be accepted for the family at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia.
