2022 09/03 – John Floyd Cunningham

Sunrise for John Floyd Cunningham began on January 16, 1950, in Aberdeen, Mississippi. Sunset on Floyd’s life was August 27, 2022. Mt. Vernon, Illinois.

Floyd was the third child born to the late John Davis and late Isabella Cunningham McNairy. He was affectionately known as Floyd to all who knew him. As a child, he professed hope in Christ as his personal savior and was baptized at New Hebron M.B. Church (New Hebron) in Aberdeen, Mississippi. During Floyd’s membership at New Hebron, he served as an usher on the Youth Usher Board. Floyd graduated from Shivers High School, Aberdeen, Mississippi. Floyd relocated to St. Louis, Missouri where he was united in holy matrimony to Dorothy Davis, and to this union one child (Eric) was born.

As time moved on, Floyd made his home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. During this time, he met and later married Rosita Bland Cunningham. Floyd became a member of Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church.  He later became an active and devoted Deacon at Pilgrim Rest.  Floyd had a number of things he was passionate about, but two of his deep passions were dressing and fishing.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, his wife (Rosita Cunningham), sister (Shirley Mae McNairy Vassar) and his brother (Willie H. McNairy, Jr.) Floyd leaves to cherish precious memories: three sons, John Eric Cunningham (Gail)-Indianapolis, IN; Changa Williams-Atlanta, GA; and Termaine Cunningham (Sha’Breon)-O’Fallon, IL; four stepchildren: Rochelle Mitchell (Rodney); Marcus Mitchell (Bridgett); Corey Mitchell; and Jerry Hill; eight grandchildren; two aunts: Mildred Crawford; and Yvonne Cunningham-Chicago, IL; three nieces: Mona Vassar-South Heaven, MS; Pamela Vassar-Chicago, IL; and Stephanie Malone (Quinton)-Starkville, MS; three nephews: Lemuel Vassar, Jr; Greg Vassar; and Arthur Robinson, Jr.-all of Aberdeen, MS; nine great nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins and friends.

A Visitation will be held Saturday, September 3, 2022, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church. A Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 pm with Reverend Ron Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
