Ruth Marie Young, age 92 of Odin, passed away on August 29, 2022, at Carlyle Healthcare Center.
Ruth was born on November 2, 1929, in Cypress, Illinois the daughter of Perry and Ona (Bishop) File. She married Glen L. Young on June 25, 1950, at the old First Baptist Church on South Broadway in Salem and he preceded her in death on March 1, 2013.
Survivors include three daughters, Marilea Hunter of Centralia; Lori Baldridge and husband Doug of Green Cove Springs, FL; and Nita Raver of Odin; a son, Alan Young and wife Erin of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren, Jared Hunter and wife Justine, Jace Hunter, Ben Baldridge and wife Lindsay, Brad Baldridge, Sarah Burton and husband Shea, Jessica Cluck and husband Victor, Melissa Hall and husband Adam, Katie Lewis and husband Justin, Jacob Young, and Jonathan Young; great-grandchildren, Victoria Hunter, Theodore Hunter, Cormoran Hunter, Colin Baldridge, Savannah Burton, Matthew Cluck, Alexandrea Hall, Zander Hall, Adalynn Hall, Scarlett Lewis, and Lucas Lewis
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glen; a son-in-law, Jim Hunter; and a grandson, Adam Baldridge.
Ruth graduated from SIU Carbondale with her master’s in education. She taught at Kell Grade School for two years and after her children had started school, she returned to teaching at Sandoval Grade School where she taught for 20 years. She was a member of the Odin First Christian Church and the Alpha Delta Kappa teacher’s sorority.
Funeral services for Ruth M. Young will be held at Noon on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem with Chris Tanner Jr. officiating the services. Burial will follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Salem, where there will be a joint interment service for Ruth’s son-in-law, James E. “Jim” Hunter, who passed away on Monday, March 23, 2020. There will be a visitation at the funeral home from 11:00 am until the time of the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Odin First Christian Church and can be left at Crouse Funeral Home which is assisting the family with arrangements.
