On August 16, 2022, Larry Allen Ellis, Sr. passed away at the age of 79 at his home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Larry was born November 2, 1942, in Mount Vernon to the late Everett Leslie and Mary Alice (Carlton) Ellis. He was a veteran of the army service where he drove a mail truck. After leaving the service, he drove a truck until he retired. He married his wife, Sylvia Maxine (Reese) Ellis on May 28, 1967, in Blytheville, Arkansas. They were married for forty-nine years before she passed away in 2017.
Larry had a passion for playing golf every day with his golfing buddies. He had several holes in one and was even featured on the digital billboard in front of Mount Vernon mall. Larry’s other passion was hanging out with his friends and playing cards on Friday nights.
Larry is survived by his children, Mickey (Christine) of Orlando, Florida, Glen Odell of Mount Vernon, Larry, Jr. (Janet) of Mount Vernon, Pamela (James) of Creal Springs, Illinois, and Angela and significant other, Ron of Centralia; grandchildren, Jamie, Christopher, Thomas, Sylvia, Debbie, Christopher, Crystal, Toni, Nikki, Courtney, Cody, Logan; several great-grandchildren; siblings, Roger (Jan) of Stonefort, Illinois and Norma Jean (Jimmy) of Mount Vernon, Illinois; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; four Chihuahuas: Peanut, Pepper, Brodie, and Sylvia.In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Larry was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Yvonne Ellis Schultz; grandson, Larry Allen Ellis III; and brother, Leslie Duane Ellis.
A Visitation will be held Monday, August 22, 2022, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at 11:00 am at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois with Mr. Marty Mills officiating. Interment will follow.
