A Battle of the Badges Blood Drive is scheduled at the Salem Community Activity Center on Wednesday.
The Red Cross’ Zach Ellmore says the fun competition is designed to get blood donors out at a time there is a critical shortage of blood.
“Participating agencies will be the Salem Police Department, the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, United Medical Response and the Salem Fire District. And they will all be competing together and the most donations on their behalf of an order to receive a monetary donation from the Salem Lions Club.”
The Salem Fire Department has been teamed with United Medical Response and the Salem Police Department with the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.
You’re encouraged to sign up to give blood on behalf of any of the department’s in their challenge. You can do so online at Red Cross.org or show up during the blood drive hours of 12 noon to five pm on Wednesday at the Salem Community Center.
Ellmore says signing up ahead of time at Red Cross.org allows the Red Cross to be prepared to better handle the number expected to show up at the drive.
