The heavy rains and strong winds that passed through the Marion County Fairgrounds around seven Wednesday night delayed, but did not cancel the Whippoorwill Rodeo.
After a wait of about an hour and 15 minutes, most of the crowd that stuck around was treated to the full rodeo.
Top finishers included Kyle and Kody Cavender of Harrisburg, number one and two, in saddle bronc. First place in the Cowgirls Breakaway Roping were Adrienne Trainor of Bumcombe followed by Molly Tibbs of Carbondale. Leo Loucks of Pittsburg took first in calf-roping and Jake Thomas of Buncombe was first in steer wrestling. In the team roping competition, Trent Heurrman of Teutopolis was first and Seth Tibbs of Carbondale second. In the Cowgirls Barrel Race, Shallane Piatt of Bridgeport was first and Haley Anderson of Cary second.
The Marion County Fair Grandstand entertainment continues Thursday night at seven with the Junior Miss Pageant and Little Miss Pageant. There will be 20 candidates vying for the Junior Miss Title. 18 Little Misses will also receive a crown and trophy.
