The construction of a new oil well valued at $350,000 was the largest building permit issued by the City of Centralia in the month of July. The well being drilled by TD Energy is located on South Walnut Street near 12th Street near existing oil wells.

Total new construction during the month totaled $543,630. One permit was granted to locate a mobile home at 1440 South Elm. The home is valued at $68,000. Norman Barth of Greve Drive was issued a permit to build a new garage. In all 25 permits were issued for fencing, new accessory buildings, pools, and signs.

There were two demolition permits issued for the month. They include a permit issued to Mike Timmons to tear down the Orphan Smokehouse building at 1829 South Pine that was heavily damaged by fire. Another permit was issued to tear down a home at 38 Arline Drive.
