The Centralia City Council has approved adult use cannabis craft grower and transporter facilities as special uses in the I-1 light industrial zone. There was no opposition from anyone in the audience or on the city council when the issue passed unanimously at Monday night’s meeting.
The planning commission had already approved the proposed new special uses along with granting the special uses to Charles Voss to use the former Plastiflex Facility on Aaron Parkway as a grow facility. City Manager Korey Smith was asked about the proposed development.
“There is room to expand and I have spoke to the developer and I believe it’s upwards to 20 jobs on the craft growing side, and that’s for initial startup.”
Voss already has license approval from the State of Illinois. The state requires all growing to be done inside in a highly secured facility.
The council approved a $235,000 bid from Utility Pipe Sales Company to provide the pipe to replace a five-thousand foot cast iron waterline in the area of the Barton Bottoms north of the water plant that feeds the Kaskaskia Water Tower that provides service to the college and prison. City staff will complete the installation over the next month and a half. Furlong Excavating, Incorporated was awarded a $243,000 bid to replace the water main on North Poplar from Rhodes to East McCord.
The council unanimously agreed to give Lucky Dogs at 8079 Jolliff Bridge Road a Class A Liquor License. Owner Teresa Guinzey made the request because they cannot get their food sales up to at least 51-percent of their business.
Rachel Wallace was appointed to the tourism board.
Clean and Green’s Mike Morris announced they would conduct a cleanup ahead of Balloon Fest. Volunteers are asked to meet at the City Hall Parking Lot at 6 pm on August 16th to be assigned a cleanup location.
