A 40-year-old Mt. Vernon man Troy Davis has been arrested for aggravated arson in connection with a July 8th apartment complex fire at 2020 Broadway in Mt. Vernon. Numerous residents were displaced and one was treated at a local hospital for smoke inhalation.
Initial investigation by the State of Illinois Fire Marshal’s Office, Mt. Vernon Fire Department, and Mt. Vernon Police Department determined the fire was an intentional act and investigators began to work with the Jefferson County State’s Attorney’s Office. On July 14th, the Jefferson County State’s Attorney’s Office requested and received a warrant charging Davis with Aggravated Arson. The bond on the warrant was set at $500,000.
Mt Vernon Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department detectives began working with the United States Marshalls Service to locate Davis.
On July 19th, members of the United States Marshalls Service took Davis into custody in Indianapolis Indiana on the Jefferson County Illinois warrant and a warrant from Indiana for Domestic Battery.
Davis remains in custody in Indiana pending extradition to Illinois.
