Margel Stanley Peddicord, age 74, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning, July 19, 2022 at his home in Mount Vernon. He grew up on a farm north of Wayne City and attended Wayne City High School, Mount Vernon Community College, and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, where he got his degree in accounting. Margel, a CPA, was the Bureau Chief of the Office of Health Finance for the Illinois Department of Pubic Aid Division of Medical Programs. In his spare time Margel enjoyed photography (especially taking pictures of his daughter and granddaughters). He married Benita Joyce Miller, of Dix on July 19, 1969, and they had two daughters, Kathleen and Susanne.
A Visitation will be held Sunday, July 24, 2022 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 3:00 pm with Pastor Jeff Van Meter officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in Margel’s honor to the American Heart Association. Margel is survived by his wife of 53 years; one daughter, Kathleen Peddicord Weiss and son-in-law, Ronald Weiss of Arlington Heights; two granddaughters, Rosa Weiss of Salt Lake City and Abigal Weiss of New York City; and one brother, Ron Peddicord of Chatham, Illinois.
Margel Stanley Peddicord was born November 15, 1947, in Mount Vernon, the son of Stanley and Lorena (Burkitt) Peddicord. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Susanne “Susie” Peddicord in 1989.
