A 31-year-old Centralia man has been charged in Marion County Court with intimidation, aggravated assault, and unlawful use of a weapon after allegedly going to his brother’s girlfriend’s home at her request following a domestic disturbance to calm him down.
Centralia Police say while the victim was seeking help from Marcelino Garcia Santiago of Green Street he allegedly kicked in the door upon arriving and turned against her and threatened her with a machete if she did not surrender her phone during the altercation.
Bond for Marcellino was set at $10,000 with the public defender appointed to represent him.
Police also arrested Marcelino’s brother, Celestino Garcia Sandiago, for intimidation and aggravated assault in connection with the incident that allegedly continued at her place of employment and her grandmother’s home. Since both the restaurant and grandmother’s home were in Clinton County, Celestino was taken to the Clinton County Jail to await a decision on formal charges.
Police say the entire incident began after Celestino went over to his girlfriend’s home after allegedly getting involved in an argument at the restaurant where he works with another employee over a chicken tender. As Celestino allegedly became upset with questions about the chicken tender from his girlfriend, he allegedly threatened to hit her in the head with a beer bottle and cut her up. It was at that point, that she text Celestino’s brother for help.
The incidents reportedly occurred on May 17th, but Centralia Police didn’t located the two brothers until last Friday when they were arrested.
