The Salem City Council has approved a special use permit to allow a doublewide mobile home to be placed on three lots at 721 East Boone Street. The request by the Coryell Investment Group, LLC had earlier received the approval of the planning commission.

The council also approved a bid for a smaller replacement pickup truck for the gas department after a full-size pickup was not available due to the current chip shortage. The cost of the midsize truck from Schmidt Ford in the amount of $45,028 was lower than the estimate for the full-size truck. City Manager Rex Barbee noted another smaller size pickup was going to be put in next year’s budget for the department, so they will just reverse the purchase order. Barbee said the truck to be replaced has over 100,000 miles on it and is beginning to show increased maintenance needs.

The council approved the Greater Salem Area Foundation to utilize the Disc Golf Course and Shelter #2 for a Disc Golf Tournament on November 27th during the Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend. The tournament will be a fundraiser for the philanthropic needs of the foundation.
