Some improvements are coming to the Anglen Road in extreme northeast Marion County.

The Marion County Board Tuesday night approved engineering contracts with Gonzales Engineers to study replacement of a bridge and a large box culvert. Gonzales will be paid just over $80,000 on the two projects.

Marion County Highway Engineer Mike McCormick says both the bridge and culvert are narrow and not designed to handle the increased truck traffic the road is seeing.

McCormick also updated the board on several other projects. He reported the Deer Creek Bridge near the Patoka School has been reopened.

The Church Road bridge just east of Route 37 south of Salem is scheduled to have its deck set in about four weeks. The goal is to get the bridge and road reopened by the start of school in mid August.

McCormick reported plans for improvements to Edgewood Road northeast of Salem may have to be modified to avoid improving a section of road that goes through an area with environmental problems that would need to be corrected.
