Patoka Fire Chief Blake Hyde says the driver of a UTV that caught fire while being driven down a rural Patoka road was able to get off without injury.

The incident occurred early Saturday night while Deric McElroy of rural Patoka was driving down Fayette County Road 200 E south of the Boat Dock Road when he heard a pop and the UTV burst into flames.

Hyde isn’t sure if the vehicle backfired or the fuel line broke leading to the fire that destroyed the 2020 Polaris Razor.

The fire call came in at six Saturday night.
