A controlled brush fire got blown out of control by the wind Saturday afternoon and spread to a 3.5 acre hay field.
The Salem Fire Protection District was able to stop the fire on the Jake Purcell Purcell property in the 3000 block of Hotze Road as it began to move into a wood area. No buildings were threatened.
The fire call came in at 1:30 Saturday.
