Floyd Mercer, of Centralia, IL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10th, 2026, at the age of 93. Born in Granite City on Wednesday, April 12th, 1933, Floyd lived a long and fulfilling life, leaving behind a legacy of love, knowledge, and passion. He is the son of Floyd Mercer, Sr. and Margaret Iona (Dickey) Mercer.

He married Nancy Claire Chapman in 1950 and they later divorced. He later married Cathy Holtmann in 1978 and they divorced.

Floyd was known for his work in the electrical industry, a field where he dedicated many years and made lasting impacts with his expertise and commitment. Outside of his professional life, Floyd had a deep-seated love for history, particularly the Civil War. He enjoyed collecting guns and military memorabilia, and he found joy in the great outdoors through camping and canoeing adventures.

Floyd’s adventurous spirit and thirst for knowledge were inspirational to all who knew him. He was a devoted father to his children: David Mercer of New Mexico, James Mercer and his wife Michelle of Perryville, MO, and JoAnn Mercer of Maryland. He was also a proud grandfather to five grandchildren and a great-grandchild, all of whom will carry his memory forward with love and admiration.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Mercer Sr. and Margaret Mercer, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms.

At this time, cremation rites will be accorded, and no public service will be held.
