Raymond “AJ” Lee Elliott, 78, of Mount Vernon, IL, passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones on August 26, 2026 in Mount Vernon, IL. He was born August 29, 1947 in Fairfield, IL to Hughy Weemer and Myrtle (Cannual) Weemer.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Wife Kay and Sister, Joyce Neibles.
Ray is survived by his Brothers, Donald (Winnie) Weemer of Odin, Ronald (Janet) Weemer of Harrisburg; Two special Cousins, Vicky McDanials and Bonnie Flood; Several nieces, nephews, cousins and many great friends.
In Ray’s early years he trained and traveled with race horses, He drove a Semi for 30 years for Direct Motor Freight. After retirement Ray ran a lawn service and worked for Woodlawn Whole Sellers Auction. Ray loved God, his church family and especially his family. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing and hanging out with his 4 legged best friend Jake. Ray also enjoyed going to current river rafting with his close friends and family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A Visitation will be held Friday, September 04, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and on Saturday, September 05, 2026 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, IL. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, September 05, 2026 at 1:00 pm with Doug Junkins officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Catherine Cemetery in Woodlawn, IL.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Raymond “AJ”‘s honor to Woodlawn Christian Church.
