Centralia Police say several stolen guns and suspected controlled substances have been recovered after several search warrants and four arrests were made last week in a combined effort with other departments.

Those taken into custody include 41-year-old Antwan Poore of Centralia for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and a felon in possession of a weapon. 31-year-old Demarcus Jones of Carbondale was charged with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of a felon in possession of a weapon in tandem with an outstanding warrant a felon in possession of a weapon. One juvenile was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. A second juvenile was arrested for three counts of burglary to a motor vehicle and one count of unlawful possession of ammunition.

Search warrants were executed in the 1200 block of West Broadway Street, 1000 block of Maulding Drive, 400 block of Anderson Street, and at Deerwood Mobile Home Park. Items recovered include three handguns, one shotgun, ammunition, suspected controlled substance and five key fobs taken during various vehicle burglaries. The recovery of the key fobs allowed investigators to link suspects to car break-ins within the past two to three months.

Centralia Police received assistance from 12 other law enforcement agencies. They include Carbondale, Central City and State Police, the Jackson, Marion and Clinton County Sheriff’s Department along with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Mt. Vernon Police Department Tactical Team. The ILEAS Special Response Team, US Marshal’s Service, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and the Marion and Clinton County State’s Attorney’s office also assisted.

Centralia Police Lieutenant Steve Whritenour says the department will continue to vigorously investigate crime and take appropriate actions to increase the safety and quality of life for residents and businesses.
