Frank Richards Jr., 92, of Salem, passed away peacefully at home on June 5, leaving behind a legacy of service, leadership, and devotion to family and community. He was born to Frank Sr. and Madonna Richards in Henryetta, Oklahoma, on April 18, 1934.

Frank proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Throughout his life, he exemplified patriotism and civic responsibility, continuing his service through his involvement with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he had served as Commander. Frank had the privilege of being a part of the Southern Illinois Veterans’ Honor Flight in September 2021. He was also honored as a 32nd Degree Mason, Shriner, and member of the Scottish Rite, reflecting his lifelong commitment to fraternity, charity, and community service.

For 70 years, Frank shared a loving and devoted marriage with his beloved wife, Jeannine. Together, they built a life centered on family, friendship, and service to their community. Their partnership extended beyond their home as they served for many years as co-chairs of the Little Egypt Festival in Salem, helping to create a cherished tradition that brought joy to generations of families.

Above all, Frank was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Jeannine; his sons, Shawn Richards (Kerri) and Stephen Richards, all of Salem; his sister, Jeanne Faith of Salem; and his grandsons, Jonah Richards (Julissa) of St. Charles, Missouri, and Isaac Richards of Salem. In addition to many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Sr. and Madonna Richards; his brothers, Russell Richards and Don Richards; his sister, Janett Yocum; and his parents-in-law, Jess and Ailene Lobaugh.

Those who knew Frank will remember his strong character, generous spirit, and unwavering commitment to the people and causes he cared about. His leadership, friendship, and service touched countless lives, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, fellow veterans, and the Salem community.

Frank’s life was a testament to honor, service, and love. The example he set through his dedication to his country, his community, and especially his family will remain an enduring source of inspiration to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
