Fairfield High School graduate McGwire Taylor delivered a championship-caliber performance when Tennessee Wesleyan needed it most, helping lead the Bulldogs to the 2026 NAIA National Championship with a 21-3 victory over Taylor University in Lewiston, Idaho. Taylor earned the start in the title game and gave the Bulldogs a strong outing on the mound, working 4.2 innings while allowing just five hits and three runs. He also struck out six batters before turning the game over to the bullpen as Tennessee Wesleyan secured its third national championship in program history.

The championship start capped off an outstanding season for the former Fairfield standout. In 18 appearances, Taylor posted a 10-2 record with a 3.14 ERA while becoming one of Tennessee Wesleyan’s most dependable pitchers. Over 94.2 innings, he recorded 104 strikeouts, consistently giving the Bulldogs a chance to win every time he took the mound.

Taylor’s performance in the national championship was a fitting end to a remarkable season. On the biggest stage in college baseball, the Fairfield native turned in a quality start and helped Tennessee Wesleyan complete a dominant postseason run. The Bulldogs finished the year 49-15 and captured the program’s third NAIA World Series title, while Taylor closed his season as a national champion after delivering when it mattered most.
