Linda Marietta Nelson, age 70, of Salem, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Axiom Healthcare of Flora in Flora, Illinois. She was born on May 5, 1956, in Jersey City, New Jersey, the daughter of Emilio and Viola (Scism) Goussen.
Linda was known for her joyful spirit and love for people. She especially enjoyed singing karaoke and participating in Bible studies at Heritage Woods Assisted Living. A faithful woman of God, Linda was a member of The Salem Apostolic Church, where she found friendship, encouragement, and spiritual strength throughout the years.
She worked as a food service cashier for the University of Delaware before retiring. Linda later attended Rend Lake College, where she studied Nail Technology.
Linda is survived by her children, Dawn Perry Schafferman and husband P.J. of Delaware, Tzipora Ruth Tipsword and husband Matthew of Salem, and Lars M. Nelson of Maryland; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her brother, Emilio A. Goussen II.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emilio and Viola Goussen.
There will be a visitation held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026, at The Apostolic Church. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Calvin Jean officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Mound Cemetery in Xenia, Illinois. Memorials can be made to the Salem Apostolic Church and will be received at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem who is assisting the family with arrangements.
