Howard L. Casner, age 83, of Centralia formerly of Salem, passed away at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Fireside House of Centralia.

Howard was born on February 8, 1943, in Salem, Illinois, the son of Charles and Bonnie (Williams) Casner. He married Doris Sanders on April 6, 1963, in Salem, Illinois, and together they shared many years of marriage before her passing.

Howard retired from Swan Corporation. He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures and was known for his love of western movies, country music, woodworking, and especially telling jokes to those around him. Howard was also a member of the Salem Shriners and Salem Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his daughters, Tammy Casner and fiancé William Easley of Salem and Patricia Beasley and husband Devon of Centralia; grandchildren, Amanda Casner of Centralia, Sylvia Hofstetter of Salem, Zachary Newcomer and wife Melanie of Salem, Utreau Gibson of Centralia, Bryan Hamilton and husband Michael of Texas, Kyle Powell of Arizona, and Andy Willard of Belleville; brothers, Ray Casner and Milford Casner and wife Patricia; and sister, Brenda Robinson and husband Ray of Salem.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris Casner; his son, Scott Casner; daughter, Karen Powell; fiancé, Charlotte Niemeyer; and sister, Peggy Henson.

A graveside service for Howard L. Casner will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2026, at Paradise Cemetery in Salem, with Calvin Jean officiating. Masonic rites will be conducted by the Salem Masonic Lodge. Memorial contributions can be made to the Shiner’s Hospital and will be received at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem who is assisting the family with arrangements.
