A shooting in the 900 block of East Kell Street in Centralia late Sunday afternoon has resulted in one death and at least three injuries.
State Police are now confirming a 19-year-old male was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased by the Marion County Coroner. They also report three additional persons were treated and released at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia.
At this time, all information indicates that this was a targeted incident with no reason to believe the public is at risk. The investigation is ongoing, and no additional information is available at this time.
State Police say they were requested by Centralia Police to conduct the shooting investigation.
Centralia Police requested mutual aid from the Marion, Clinton, Washington, and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Departments and also received assistance from officers in Salem, Nashville, Okawville, Central City, and Wamac. They not only helped in the early part of the investigation, but also assisted with crowd control, which was an issue after the gunfire occurred.
Portable light systems were brought into the area by several fire departments to allow the crime scene investigation to continue after dark.
St. Mary’s Hospital was also reportedly locked down after the shooting victims were brought there.
We’ll continue to update the story as information becomes available.
