Joyce LaVerne Sullens, age 85 of St. Charles, MO, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026, at her son’s home in St. Charles.
Joyce was born on March 20, 1941, in Salem, the daughter of Russell and May (Simmons) Sullens. She married Lloyd E. “Rip” Sullens on April 5, 1958, in Millbourne, PA, and he preceded her in death on December 15, 2009.
Survivors include her sons, Denver Sullens of St. Charles, MO and Dale Sullens and wife Stacey of O’Fallon, MO; grandchildren, Denver Sullens, Jessica Walker and husband Kelly, Jacob Sullens and wife Allie, Aaron Sullens, and Kali Farrell; three great-grandchildren, Kailey Sullens, Keira Walker and Grey Groth; and special family friend, Laney Quandt.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, Dennis Sullens and Donald Sullens, and her wife, Victoria.
Joyce grew up and attended school in Salem. She worked as a registered nurse for many years at Barnes Hospital in St. Peters, MO. She attended First Baptist Church in O’Fallon, MO, and was a former member of the Salem American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, dancing, and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
A graveside service for Joyce Sullens will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Paradise Cemetery in Salem. Military rites will be accorded at the cemetery by the Salem American Legion to honor the service of her husband, Lloyd. Crouse Funeral Home in Salem is assisting the family with arrangements.
