Mt. Vernon Police have arrested a 46-year-old St. Louis man on multiple charges including attempted vehicular hijacking after responding to a report of a man trying to enter vehicles at Mach 1 at 1409 South 42nd Street early Saturday morning.
Aaron Prikasky allegedly attacked the first officer on the scene and then began to flee. The officer slipped on a patch of ice when he started to pursue Prikasky and injured his knee. Prikasky then tried to steal a vehicle which was locked and unoccupied sitting at a gas pump. He was unsuccessful as the officer started to close in on him.
Prikasky then allegedly attempted to steal a running unlocked semi-truck. The officer caught Prikasky and another officer arrived to assist. Prikasky continued fighting officers and he was eventually subdued after a Taser deployment. Both officers sustained minor injuries.
Police later learned Prikasky had previously tried to hijack a vehicle that was occupied at the gas pumps just prior to officers arriving. Prikasky’s vehicle had broken down on the interstate, and he went to Mach 1 prior to the incident.
Prikasky was detained at the Jefferson County Jail pending court action on Attempted Vehicular Hijacking, two counts of Attempted Vehicle Thefts, two counts of Aggravated Battery to a Police Officer, and Criminal Damage to Property.
