A Centralia home was damaged late Friday afternoon by a fire that started from a heater designed to keep a chicken warm.
Fire Chief Jeff Day says a heat lamp was attached to the rear of the home of Lindsay Cole at 807 South Cherry that started a fire in straw bedding for the chicken. The fire then spread to the rear wall of the home, broke a window, and caused smoke and water damage to the kitchen. Day reports the fire was also beginning to spread into the attic, but was stopped before it caused any damage to the roof.
The fire call came in at 2:57 Friday afternoon, with firemen on the scene about an hour.
All off duty Centralia Firefighters were called in, but then kept at the station when the fire was knocked down quickly. They then helped with cleanup after the fire call.
