George Edward Hoyt, 89, of Cape Coral, FL, formerly of Centralia, IL, went to live with Jesus on December 13, 2024. He was born on March 10, 1935, in Kinmundy, IL to Frank Hoyt and Cora Scott Hoyt.
George was an active member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church. He was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He was part of the American Legion and the Loyal Order of the Moose. He was involved with the United Commercial Travelers and the Boy Scouts. He retired from the Illinois Central Railroad.
He is a US Army Veteran of the Korean War era. He served with the 505th AAA Bn.
George is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Elizabeth “Betty” T. Hoyt; three children, David Hoyt (wife, Barbara), George R. Hoyt (wife, Teresa), and Mary Hoyt (partner, Jason Lipe); four grandchildren, Collin Hoyt, Kelsey Hoyt Kuhlman, Eamon Hoyt, and Emme Hoyt; siblings, Phyllis Hoyt Jackson of Broken Arrow, OK and Ron Hoyt of Springfield, IL; dear friend of over 40 years, Bill W.; and the rest of his loving family and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eldon Beals, Marion Beals, twins Kenneth and Keith Beals, John Hoyt, and Herman Hoyt; and sister, Mona Hoyt Watson.
George prayed and talked with God daily. He loved his family and friends and had a heart for the poor and outcast.
A Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church 12175 Stringfellow Road Bokeelia, FL. on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 11 am.
Graveside services will also be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Evergreen Cemetery in Kinmundy. In lieu of flowers, contributions in George’s memory may be made to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church of Bokeelia, Fl. and will be accepted at the graveside or at Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 N.
