The Centralia City Council Monday night will be asked to pass a resolution for ADA compliance and safety improvements to the Amtrak station. Amtrak will pay for the work which includes improvements to the lighting and platform, ramp and new sidewalk and parking improvements. City Manager Kory Smith notes there is no exterior or interior work at the station building included in the scope of work.
The council will be asked to begin preparation for the demolition of 15 more dangerous and substandard homes. They are at 960 East Noleman, 923 East 3rd, 525 East Rhodes, 513 North Beech, 704 Rasback, 1018 Marion, 1120 Case, 306 West Kell, 502 North Hickory, 312 North Locust, 709 East Cormick, 336 South Pine, 219 East 16th, 336 South Hickory, and 633 South Maple. Liens will be placed on the properties for the full amount of the demolition expenses including court costs. Demolition funds will be from the 2025 Community Development Demolition Fund.
The council will also open bids for 11 other properties earlier declared as surplus after dangerous homes were removed.
Five miles of oil and chip improvements to city streets next summer is proposed as part of next year’s motor fuel tax street maintenance program. The resolution, which needs approval from IDOT, will allow up to $130,000 to be spent on the program from motor fuel taxes.
A resolution will be presented allowing the Centralia Emergency Services and Disaster Area to participate in a mutual aid intergovernmental service agreement.
The meeting begins at six Monday night at Centralia City Hall. A work session proceeds the regular meeting at 5:30 to discuss the fiscal year 2025 budget expenditures and revenues.
