A 29-year-old Wamac man has been charged in Marion County Court Monday with aggravated battery to a police officer and aggravated resisting arrest.
Wamac Police say Tyler Atchison of Wabash Avenue began fighting when they attempted to take him into custody Saturday night on a no bond Marion County warrant in a major traffic case.
He had a public defender appointed to represent him and was released on pre-trial conditions following his first appearance in court. His conditions of release include having no firearms or dangerous weapons. Atchison has had his first appearance in court with counsel set for December 17th.
Wamac Police say Atchison was first handcuffed after allegedly resisting a Wamac and Central City officer. But after complaining about the tightness of the cuffs when being placed into a squad car, one of the cuffs was taken off and Atchison allegedly kicked the Wamac officer and then fought with two Centralia officers who had responded to the scene.
He was eventually taken back into custody and was transported to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia for treatment of an arm injury before going to the Marion County Jail.
Two Centralia officers received minor hand injuries in the altercation, but did not require hospital treatment.
The incident occurred following a traffic stop Saturday night in a parking lot off East 17th Street.
