A 19-year-old Salem man has been arrested by Salem Police for home invasion and resisting arrest.

Demeir Owens of North Miller was taken into custody on Saturday following a Tuesday incident where he allegedly forced his way into a garage while armed with a knife.   Salem Police say the alleged victim was living in the garage behind the home where Owens sometimes stayed.  The two had been involved in a physical altercation earlier in the day.   The argument resumed later in the afternoon when Owens entered the garage with a knife.  The alleged victim picked up a bat to defend himself.   Owens then reportedly left before there was any contact between the two men.

Owens had gone back to the home where he was staying after the incident, but police did not arrest him at that point because they didn’t have enough evidence.

By Saturday, police say the investigation had provided enough evidence for an arrest.   Owens allegedly pulled away when being handcuffed and ran around the block before using the back door to go back into the house.  After getting permission to search, police allegedly found Owens hiding in a closet where he was taken into custody and the Marion County Jail.
