Centralia City Firemen say a short in an old electrical line in a crawl space started a smoldering fire late Monday afternoon at the Lorraine Forrest home at 1103 North Elm.
While firemen could see the smoke, they had no way to reach it because there was no access to the 12-inch-tall crawl space. They eventually had to cut two holes in the floor to gain access to the fire.
Fire damage was limited to the problem on the electrical system and the two holes in the floor.
The fire call came in at 4 Monday afternoon. Firemen were on the scene for about an hour and a half.
