Centralia Police are investigating a drive-by shooting Thursday night involving two vehicles in the 900 block of North Elm.
Police report that an SUV pulled up beside another vehicle and fired multiple shots into the car. The woman driving the car was not shot but received a small laceration due to her driver’s side window being shot out. Officers observed five bullet holes around the driver’s side front door and window. There were two small children in the vehicle that were not injured. The gunfire all went into the vehicle and nothing else in the neighborhood was hit.
The owner of the struck vehicle made contact with the Centralia Police Department. Police were given a description of the SUV from which the shots were fired. The shot car was impounded so that the Illinois Department of Criminal Investigation could gather evidence.
The Central City Police Department was dispatched to the call at 11:09 PM Thursday night. The Centralia Police Department assisted with the call. During the initial phase of the investigation, officers went into the 900 block of North elm and located several shell casings that were taken into evidence. Officers canvassed the area looking for witnesses and any possible video of the incident. Centralia Police detectives are currently following up on several leads.
So far, no arrests have been made.
