A 34-year-old Salem man was injured when his car went out of control and ran off Route 37 South near Paradise Cemetery just outside the Salem City Limits.

Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies say Sean Wimberly of Deer Path Drive was traveling northbound when he ran off the eastside of the road, traveled along the ditch, jumped a culvert, hit a power pole and spun around before coming to a stop.

The Salem Fire Protection District was called to extricate Wimberly from his pickup truck.  The driver’s door had to be removed.  Wimberly was then taken by United Medical Response to Salem Township Hospital where he was later transferred by medical helicopter to a St. Louis Hospital.

The crash occurred at 6:44 Thursday morning.
