The General Chair of the 53rd Annual Little Egypt Festival held over the weekend is pleased with the turnout to watch and participate.

Jay Henke performed as Neil Diamond on the Americana Float.

“It was a lot of fun,” Henke said. “I usually watch and help feed the parade lineup in, but today I got to ride and see everyone having fun. A lot of kids having a good time. The floats were very fun themed, most of them all playing music and having a good time. That’s what it’s all about, kids and having a good time.”

Henke feels the music theme worked well for bringing in additional floats.

“It was a good, universal theme to pick. Whether you were a rock band on the back of a flatbed or a church playing gospel music, it seemed to touch everyone and come from every direction, so we were real happy with that.”

Henke says it’s too early to talk about changes next year, but he anticipates welcoming several new committee members which will help spread out the workload.

The complete list of winners is available in the news section of WJBDradio.com.

If your entry won a trophy and you didn’t pick it up on parade day, they are available at the studios of WJBD/WSIQ at 310 West McMackin Street.
