Douglas “Doc” Howard Schmidt, 62, of Centralia, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born January 2, 1963, in Centralia, he was the beloved son of the late Howard and Marian (Redeker) Schmidt.

Doc spent decades working at Withers Broadcasting, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic. In 2012, he began working at Continental Tire until an injury in 2024 forced him to stop. A lifelong Cubs fan, Doug’s passion for baseball was matched only by the love he had for his family.

Doug married Chris (Kane) Schmidt, and the couple shared 35 wonderful years side by side.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Marian Schmidt.

He is survived by his devoted wife- Chris Schmidt; daughter- Heather Morado (Brat 1) and her husband Matt; son- Jayk Schmidt (Brat 2) and his wife Amber; and his nine cherished grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister- Diana Rink and her husband Dan along with two nephews and their spouses. Doug also leaves behind his loving mother-in-law- Jeannie Miller, and a host of extended family and friends who will deeply miss him.

Above all, Doug will be remembered for the love he had for his family. His greatest joy was being a husband, father, and grandfather. Doug will also be remembered for his quick wit, his unwavering love for his family, and the way he could bring a smile to anyone’s face. His legacy of love, laughter, and devotion will continue to live on through his children, grandchildren, and future generations.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, October 6, 2025, at the City Hope Church, located at 851 East 2nd Street in Centralia.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will begin at 7:00 PM on Monday, October 6, 2025 at City Hope Church. Rev. Maurice Midgley and Martin Miley will officiate followed by a time of reflection for all to share loving memories and stories of Doug.
