The South Central School Board has approved a contract to make repairs to the stucco finish on the outside of the Kinmundy Grade School building.

The board awarded a $36,000 bid to Johannes Construction of Centralia to complete the work on the north and west sides of the building.

Superintendent Kerry Herdes says the finish is currently flaking off and he doesn’t want the building to look unsightly.

The board Wednesday night approved its annual budget.  The $8.5-million budget for the fiscal year ending next June 30th has a $200,000 deficit across all funds.  Herdes says there is ample surplus from previous years to cover any shortfall at the end of the fiscal year.

The board approved allowing students to attend the Okaw Vocational Center in Vandalia again next year.  23 students are attending some classes at the center this year.  Three others are attending nursing training at Salem Community High School.

In personnel news, the board approved Madi Lockhart as foreign language club sponsor, Doug Owens as freshman class sponsor, Tony Farthing as 5th/6th grade head basketball coach, Nathan Lotz as association middle school basketball coach, and Lancy Webster as volunteer assistant coach of the high school basketball team.  Ginny Keen was named district treasurer following the resignation of Kay Engel.  The board approved Casey Bolin as a volunteer assistant to help with FFA trips.
