Plans are being finalized for the 2024 American Cancer Society Marion County Relay For Life which will be held Saturday, September 28 at the Marion County Fairgrounds in Salem.
The event will open at 4pm with Team booths open, Entertainment, and the Cancer Survivor Reception beginning at 4pm also. At 5pm is Opening Ceremonies and Survivor, Caregiver and Team Laps. Fundraising booths and the Survivor Reception area will re-open then and remain open until 7pm for the Luminaria Ceremony, and the event closes at 8pm.
The 2024 goal is $40,000 with $22,314 turned in so far. There are 12 Teams registered. Teams are doing fundraising activities and are planning for their Team booths at the event. Booths will include Silent Auction, Cake Walk, Raffles, Jewelry, Tshirts, Adopt a Stuffed Dog booth, Balloon Pop, Food Booths including nachos, baked goods, Dippin Dots, etc. There will also be food trucks on the grounds.
Admission is free and there will be free parking. Bring a lawnchair and enjoy the evening of music, entertainment and ceremonies with people from all over the county. Everyone is welcome to attend Relay For Life as we take the evening to celebrate Cancer Survivors, remember those who cancer has taken too soon, and fight back against cancer by raising funds for vitally important research programs, patient services and education, and initiatives for public awareness of cancer screenings, healthy lifestyles and food choices to help reduce the risk of certain cancers. Relay For Life is a smoke free, pet free, alcohol free, event open to everyone.
Luminaria are currently being sold by Team members at $5 each, and can also be purchased online at www.relayforlife.org/marionil at the Donate prompt, then select Luminaria. Luminaria are to honor someone who is currently experiencing cancer or in memory of someone who was taken too soon by cancer. They are white bags that are illuminated at 7pm during the Luminaria Ceremony. It is a very meaningful ceremony.
