Salem Chamber seeking bids to sell its building

The Greater Salem Chamber of Commerce is seeking bids on its building and adjoining vacant lot on West Main Street.

If the property is sold the chamber is looking at the possibility of having a mobile office that can travel to events and businesses in the community.

Chamber President Laura Daughtery said they have had inquiries in the past for the property and to be fair they decided to seek bids.  She notes they don’t want to sell the property and have it sit vacant, so the ideas of how those bidding would utilize the property is important.

Chamber Executive Director Jessiycka Coleman notes with COVID-19 much of their work has gone remote and there is not much of a demand for a brick-and-mortar structure.  She says they could end up having a small building mostly to keep records.

Bids are due September 24th.   The chamber board will then look over the bids in October before making a decision on how to proceed.
