A 31-year-old homeless Centralia man has been charged in Marion County Court with failure to register as a sex offender.

Michael Stokes was arrested for failing to register with the Centralia Police Department for three or more days in late July.   The charge is a Class Two felony due to a prior sex registration violation in Boone County.  A conviction requires a minimum confinement of seven days in the local county jail.

Stokes had the public defender appointed to represent him at his first court hearing.  He was released on pre-trial conditions.  A preliminary hearing is set for September 3rd.
