A 50-year-old Mt. Vernon man was airlifted from the scene of a motorcycle-pickup crash on Route 37 at Route 161 Extension Friday morning.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Department reports the driver of the motorcycle, Geoffrey Sneddon of East Country Meadows in Mt. Vernon, was traveling northbound on Route 37 and stopped at the stop sign. The driver of the pickup truck, 38-year-old Travis Pendley of East Violet Road in Mt. Vernon, was stopped behind Sneddon and ran into the rear of the cycle when he thought Sneddon had started into the intersection.
Sneddon was taken to Raccoon Grade School where an Air Evac helicopter had landed. He was then taken to a St. Louis Hospital for treatment.
Pendley was not hurt in the crash.
Traffic was blocked at the intersection for nearly an hour after the crash occurred at 7:54 Friday morning.
