A 60-year-old Farina man was pronounced dead on the scene following a motorcycle crash in northwest Clay County early Wednesday night.
Clay County Coroner Bryce Henry pronounced Ronnie Merritt of Farina deceased on the scene.
Henry reports the crash occurred on the Edgewood Road northwest of Iola. It appears Merritt was traveling southbound on the Edgewood Road when he came upon a curve and for unknown reasons lost control of the motorcycle and went off into the ditch and was ejected.
An autopsy has been scheduled to help determine the exact cause of death.
Agencies assisting with the crash were the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Farina Fire and Rescue, Farina EMS, Troop 9 Illinois State Police.
No further information is currently being released.
