Fire has heavily damaged a home in Dix.
Jefferson Fire reports Edwin Austin of 308 Northeast Street exited his home Wednesday afternoon when hearing a pop. When going outside to see what was happening, he could see smoke coming from the attic. A short time later, a second caller indicated flames were coming from the second story.
Firemen found fire in the second story upon arrival and got a quick knockdown from outside before entering. There was extensive fire and heat damage to the second story of the brick and concrete home and extensive water and heat damage to the first floor where firemen were successful in keeping the fire from spreading.
The cause of the fire is currently listed as undetermined with an electrical problem being suspected.
Jefferson Fire received mutual aid assistance from Mt. Vernon, Bluford, Wayne City, and Kell Firefighters.
The initial call came in at two on Wednesday afternoon, with firemen on the scene for two hours.
