Salem City Officials say as of now the July 4th music festival and fireworks display are still scheduled for Thursday. However, the city council Monday night set a rain date if weather is uncooperative.
The rain date will be the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, August 31st. If the event has to be moved, City Clerk Tabatha Meador is hopeful the musicians will be available for a music festival leading up to the fireworks.
City officials say due to the time involved in setting up the fireworks, they will have to make a decision on if the show will go on by ten or eleven Thursday morning. They note a little rain won’t hurt anything, but thunderstorms or heavy rains would force cancellation.
Once a decision is made, we’ll made an announcement on WJBD as well as SouthernIllinoisNow.com, and on the WJBD Radio Facebook page.
