A 21-year-old Mt. Vernon man was injured when his car left State Route 148 south of Mt. Vernon near Straw Road late Thursday night.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies say William Penrod III of Logan Street was southbound when he ran off the pavement into the roadside ditch.
Jefferson Fire officials say Penrod was trapped in his vehicle and they had to pop open a back door to get him out.
Penrod was initially transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon and then airlifted to a St. Louis Hospital for treatment.
He was the only one in the vehicle.
The crash was reported at 11:30 Thursday night.
