Edward L. McQuade, age 83 of Carlyle, passed away at Evercare of Breese (formerly known as the Breese Nursing Home) on Sunday, June 22, 2025.

Edward was born on the family farm in Beaver Prairie on June 25, 1941, a son of the late Jack and Hilda (Hilgemann) McQuade. On August 27, 1966, he married Marjorie McBride at St. Margaret Mary Parish in Granite City, Illinois. Through their marriage, Eddie and Margie were blessed with five daughters, Carol (Mike) Garner of Breese, Nancy (Alan) Stessman of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Barbara (Leonard) Bathon of Carlyle, Theresa (Larry) Goscinski of Freeburg and Kathy (Dewitt) Blankenship of Hillsboro; 9 grandchildren, one great grandchild, and he was eagerly awaiting the arrival of another great grandchild this fall. He is also survived by his sister, JoAnn (Bill) Varel; and his sisters-in-law, Susie McQuade, Karen McQuade, Paula (Lowell) Burton, and Karen McBride; and brothers-in-law, Dennis (Patti) McBride and Randy (Sue) McBride.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Hilda McQuade; his siblings, Leonard McQuade, Eileen McQuade, Raymond (Linda) McQuade, Julian McQuade, and Paul McQuade; his mother- and father-in-law, Paul and Ida Mae McBride, and his brothers-in-law, Terry McBride, Jim Hensley, and Jerry Birchler; and his sister-in-law, Judy Hensley.

Eddie was a 1960 graduate of Mater Dei High School and a lifelong member of St. Felicitas Catholic Parish in Beaver Prairie. In 1962, he joined the U.S. Army Reserves, serving honorably until 1968. A dedicated and hardworking man, Eddie made his career as a meat cutter, working at Reagan’s Meat Processing, Trenton Processing, Seiffert’s Processing, and Schuette’s Super Valu Stores. He retired from Super Valu in 2009. Alongside his trade, he was a lifelong farmer. Eddie was active in his community, serving on the Wheatfield Township Board and the Breese District #12 School Board for many years. He was also a faithful member of the Breese Knights of Columbus, exemplifying a life of service, faith, and commitment to others.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Felicitas Church at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 27, 2025. Interment will follow at St. Felicitas Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle on Thursday, June 26, 2025, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and on Friday, June 27, from 9:00 – 10:00 AM.
