The contents of a metal carport of a home at 1425 Mitchell Drive in Centralia were damaged by fire Saturday morning.

Centralia Firemen say the fire at the residence occupied by Javon Williams apparently started when a metal bucket containing coals from a BBQ grill started nearby charcoal and lighter fluid on fire.  The blaze damaged a smoker, grill, and refrigerator in the carport, a car parked next to the carport, and began melting the siding of the home.

The carport structure itself escaped damage.

One fireman was treated and released at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia after being overcome by the heat.

The property is owned by Whitney Williams.

The fire call came in at 9:43 on Saturday morning.  Firemen were on the scene for about a half hour.
