There is now an end in sight to the rough surface on West Main Street from Selmaville Road to Baldridge Drive in front of the Salem Walmart Store.
The Illinois Department of Transportation reports $1.1-million has been placed in the Fiscal Year 2025 budget that begins July 1st to complete two resurfacing projects on US 50 in Salem.
In addition to the work on the west side of town, IDOT also plans to resurface East Main from Weymeyer Drive that leads to the Salem American Legion to Lackey Street on the other side of the railroad underpass.
IDOT spokesperson Dawn Johnson expects the work will most likely be completed in the 2025 road construction season.
